Email Program vs Browser (Page 2)

When using an email program, such as Outlook Express, to get your emails, once you download all 500 emails, the ISP computer deletes those 500 emails off their computer.  Therefore, once the download is finished, you have them on your computer, but they are no longer on the ISP’s computer.

If something stops the download of these 500 messages … and the message download stops for some reason, the ISP NEVER gets the opportunity to delete the 500 messages from it’s computer.  Therefore, if you only downloaded 200 messages and it stops … then you have 200 messages on your computer and there are still 500 messages (200 of which you’ve already downloaded + 300 that you haven’t) are still on the ISP’s computer.

This means that when you try to download the messages again, it will download all 500 messages.  It will start with the same 200 that you’ve already gotten (so you’ll have 2 of each of the first 200 emails) and continue on, until ALL 500 have been downloaded.  Once they are all successfully downloaded, then AND ONLY THEN will the ISP delete them from it’s computer.

So, if you have a lot of emails and for some reason you cannot keep the connection long enough that all the emails download successfully, you may want to consider going through the browser to get your emails

If you want to delete all your emails and don’t want to go through each one individually, you can call your ISP and ask them to delete all of them.

If you need help, just call us and we will call them with you to help you tell them what you want.
